Dear Pastor,
Across America, Christian families are making a quiet but determined exit from public education. They’re not just frustrated—they’re deeply convicted. More and more parents are waking up to the reality that the spiritual formation of their children is being shaped by institutions that do not share their biblical worldview.
And they are asking: Will our church help us?
The Public School Crisis
For decades, churches have entrusted education to the state. But state education is no longer neutral—if it ever was. Secular ideology now saturates school curricula, from radical views on gender and sexuality to outright hostility toward parental rights.
The organization Public School Exit warns:
“Public schools today are being used to undermine faith, family, and freedom. From transgender policies to anti-Christian bias, many families are realizing that discipleship can’t be outsourced to Caesar.”
Even mainstream outlets like NPR have taken notice. In their recent series Falling Behind: The Miseducation of America’s Boys, one mother described school as her son’s “six cruel hours of our lives.” He dreaded every day of it. That’s not an exaggeration—it’s a warning sign.
Education researcher and author Kerry McDonald adds,
“The one-size-fits-all mass-schooling model demands compliance and obedience that girls are often better able to demonstrate than boys. This has only worsened as schooling has become more standardized and test-driven.”
Boys are falling behind. Families are falling apart. But there is hope.
Homeschooling Works—And the Data Proves It
According to the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI):
“On average, homeschool students score 15 to 30 percentile points above public-school students on standardized academic achievement tests.” – Dr. Brian Ray
Homeschoolers are also more likely to engage in community service, vote in local elections, and carry their biblical faith into adulthood.
And as HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) notes:
“Homeschooling allows for an education tailored to a child’s unique needs, learning pace, and interests, often resulting in higher academic achievement and stronger family relationships.”
It’s not just about academics. It’s about discipleship, family, and freedom.
The Church’s Opportunity: Start a Schoolhouse.
At ChurchSchoolhouse.com, we help churches start local homeschool communities—called Schoolhouses—right inside their church buildings. These are not formal schools. They are homeschool ministries, guided by your pastoral leadership, where Christian families gather weekly to teach, learn, and grow together. They are a MINISTRY of the LOCAL church.
- Parents do the teaching (it’s a true co-op).
- Families join via a membership to SchoolhouseTeachers.com, a full PK–12 Christian curriculum.
- No cost to the church
- No registration or enrollment fees
- Each Schoolhouse is led by the church’s pastor and elders—it is a local missional ministry of YOUR CHURCH.
Churches across the U.S.—and now globally—are stepping up. They’re opening their doors during the week to become a refuge for families who want to raise their children in truth. You can do the same.
Let’s Build Something Together
If the Lord is stirring your heart, visit ChurchSchoolhouse.com. You’ll find a simple form there that begins a conversation about what it might look like to welcome homeschooling families into your church building—under your care and biblical leadership.
We’ll walk with you. We’ll provide what you need. And we’ll introduce you to other pastors doing the same.
The need is great. The time is now. And the Church is ready.
“We must leave behind the state-run education system for campus Christian schools or homeschools. Christ is the foundation of what God blesses. Anything that does not have Christ as the foundation will fail.” — E. Ray Moore, Chairman of the Board, Public School Exit
The “Schoolhouse bell” is ringing. It’s not the sound of morning roll call—it’s the sound of spiritual alarm. It’s a call for pastors to rise, for churches to open their doors, and for God’s people to reclaim the education of the next generation. Will your church answer?
Pastor, we’re asking you: lead the way. The families are waiting. Let’s give them hope.
